As we get closer to welcoming Will-oh!, our Riding Simulator, I’ve been busy gathering the best tools to help riders feel and understand their bodies in the saddle. Along with Franklin Balls, we’ll also be using another powerful training aid: Equibands.
Have you ever ridden with them before—either on yourself or on a horse? If you have, you already know how quickly they make you aware of your posture, core, and alignment. If not, you’re in for something pretty eye-opening!
What Are Equibands?
Equibands (often used as part of the Equicore system) are elastic bands that wrap around the rider’s thighs, hips, or core. They provide gentle resistance and constant feedback, helping riders:
These aren’t about “holding you in place”—they’re about helping your muscles learn where they should naturally be.
Why Use Equibands on a Simulator?
Equibands are often seen on horses, but they’re extremely useful for riders too. And when paired with a simulator like Will-oh!, they become even more effective—because:
With Will-oh!’s data on seat pressure, rein use, symmetry, and leg aids, combining Equibands allows riders to see and feel improvements instantly. I love the expression on my face in the second image; clearly, I was excited about these bands!
How Equibands Improve Your Position
Riders often notice improvements like:
✅ A more neutral pelvis and balanced seat
The resistance reminds you to sit tall and avoid tipping forward or collapsing.
✅ Engaged core, not tight shoulders
Instead of bracing through the upper body, your strength comes from your center.
✅ Legs draped—not gripping
The bands help prevent the knee from creeping up or clamping, allowing the thigh to lengthen and soften.
✅ Quiet, steady lower leg
Your calf stays closer to the horse (or simulator), improving contact and communication.
Have You Used Them Before?
